About Smart Home Edge Lab

Our mission is to help the industry pivot toward true consumer independence by giving everyday DIYers the tools, knowledge, and blueprints to bring their data back home. Our goal is to simplify installations so that DIYers can have their systems up and running error-free in just a short time. If they do not want a full test lab and just want to remove the cloud from their home, we want to help.

What We Do:

  • Free Installation Blueprints: We demystify the modern edge by providing completely free, step-by-step guides to help you deploy, configure, and maintain robust, privacy-first home labs and smart home systems without breaking the bank.  Our goal is to provide Detailed instalation instructions so that an everyday use can create their own Home Lab.  Also we want to provide instructions on how ti install other products in your lab like Deluge Torrent Server/Downloader, Home Assistant with a front end web design, PiHole for DNS support and home naming conventions.  PiHole will also help identify your presence on the web.  Ollama for AI Models and requirements needed to support autropopulation, voice control etc.  Twingate connector to provide external connectivity into your Home Lab.  We want to provide additi9onal installation guides as hardware become available to test on opr as the user community can asssist.
  • One of the biggest issues with these installs is the try and learn problem.  It may take 4 or 5 installs to Get-It0Right.  We want to eliminate this by providing a complete package assembly that we have proven works.  If you decide to try and use different hardware then we want to know what you learned so we can share this with the community.
  • Our goal as stated is to provide a robust Home Lab to the community that is free from subscription fees and outside cloud support.  We try to minimize this additional expense if there is a workaround and details on setup.
  • The Hardware Proving Ground: Our dedicated home lab serves as a real-world testing environment, evaluating equipment performance under actual daily workloads to ensure absolute stability and speed.  Once the Home Lab is configured we waant to provide a testing foundation with documented tests that provide metrics that we want to share on the web.  This will help other users find the best producta for their needs.  It also provides a setup that contains its own self test and diagnostics to prove that your system is working as designed.
  • Deep-Dive Vendor Showcases: We provide comprehensive performance comparisons within a manufacturer's own product ecosystem. Instead of generic cross-brand matchups, we help you understand exactly which tier of a vendor's lineup delivers the right power and value for your specific build.  When manufacturers are willing to entertain us with products we want to updfate our documentation so that others can perform the installs for themselves.  We also want to provide benchmarks in an industry standard method for comparison.  We will not compete manufactures against each other but will if possible compete products against the manufacturers product line.  This will not only help people interested in buying items for themselves but we will also provide links to save them money.  It is our goal to come up with simple procedures that work so that anyone can build their own labs and not have to deal with the unkowns of the AI the internet leads us on.  Hopefully this will turn into a one stop shop for all things Home Labs and Voice Automation using satellite devices.
